Opening Marks Company’s 1st Sustainable Development

SARASOTA, FLA -- North American Properties – Southeast, Inc. announces the opening of Publix at Bee Ridge, an 58,000-square foot, neighborhood shopping center.  Located in Sarasota, Fla., Publix at Bee Ridge (publixatbeeridge.com) includes a 28,900-square foot Publix Super Market, 19,000 square feet of small shop space and two outparcels for banks.  The 10-acre site is situated at the southwest corner of Bee Ridge Road and Bee Ridge Road Extension, approximately three miles east of Interstate 75.

The development features a unique blend of national and local retailers that offer soft goods and other convenient services.  Sarasota is a solid market with consistent initial leasing activity despite the national economic environment.  Publix at Bee Ridge is located on one of only two sites with commercial retail zoning and is the only Publix-anchored center east of I-75 in Sarasota County.

North American Properties complied with Sarasota County’s Sustainable Building Resolution (No.2005-048) and designed Publix at Bee Ridge to meet the standards of the Green Building Program that aligns with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  The Publix building is seeking certification in the LEED New Construction (LEED-NCv2.2) development program while the retail shop buildings are seeking certification in the LEED Core & Shell development program (LEED-CSv2.0).
