Overview of Job Description

The Controller is responsible for management/oversight of the accounting department, financial systems and financial controls of the company, including preparation/reporting of financial information, internal and external reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

In order to perform daily duties and responsibilities, the Controller must:

  • Promote and support NAP's vision and culture and the strategic direction for the company.
  • Ensure the team’s direction aligns with NAP's strategy and promotes forward thinking; ensure adequate accounting resources are developed and available to achieve NAP's strategy.
  • Promote a tone which ensures our culture and values are extended to both our internal and external partners.
  • Interact effectively with other offices promoting the entrepreneurial spirit of NAP while maintaining necessary controls.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual consolidations and reporting process.
  • Responsible for oversight of compliance, controls, construction draw process and job cost reporting.
  • Review contract language and loan documents for conformity to standard practices and ensures NAP’s ability to comply.
  • Review and approve significant wire transfers.
  • Oversee accounting processes and controls that are substantially in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee production of and provide review for tax basis financial statements.
  • Oversee production of fair market value balance sheets.
  • Oversee the annual operating budget process and periodic forecast updates.
  • Oversee any audit, review or compliance requirements of external partners or services providers.
  • Develop, implement and review performance of internal control procedures and processes.
  • Establish a framework that provides the necessary reporting to stake holders.
  • Oversee the accounting of payroll and benefits.
  • Manage, develop and mentor team members.
  • Foster an environment where all associates have the opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Manage and guide continuous improvement efforts.
  • All other duties as assigned by the CFO.

The Controller must be deadline driven, detail oriented, and a team player with a positive attitude who demonstrates flexibility. NAP upholds a professional and deadline‐oriented working environment in an office setting. S/he will be expected to interact with internal and external contacts on a daily basis.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance preferred)
  • CPA (active preferred, not required)
  • 12+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Cash management and consolidation experience preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Demonstrated ability to assume ownership, work independently, and achieve results
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Real Estate Development/Construction experience desirable, not required
