Overview of Job Description

North American Properties (NAP) is seeking candidates for a Staff Accountant position in our Cincinnati office. NAP is an active real estate firm in the region and across multiple states with new development projects in excess of $500 million. The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accounting and reporting for numerous investment entities and the underlying land and commercial properties. The position reports to the Controller and will collaborate with both internal and external business partners to provide accounting, reporting and project services for various properties and investment entities. 

Duties and Responsibilities

In order to perform daily duties and responsibilities, the Staff Accountant, Investments must:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule.
  • Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations including cash accounts, receivables, payables, accruals, notes payable and other debt obligations. 
  • Provide and perform accounting for NAP entities and properties including preparation and positions of journal entries and cash receipts into the general ledger. 
  • Analyze revenues, expenses, assets and liabilities to ensure application of proper accounting. 
  • Determine and monitor cash requirements for numerous entities on a recurring basis. 
  • Analyze invoices for proper coding and ensure the cash position supports payment of invoices on a timely basis. 
  • Prepare quarterly reforecasts and annual operating budgets. 
  • Provide financial reports and ad hoc information to both lenders and investors. 
  • Identify and develop improvement opportunities within existing processes
  • Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting Preferred)
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • Demonstrated ability to assume ownership, work independently, and achieve results
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
