John Kelley finds his passion in creating places that build community and make an emotional connection with each and every project. As a partner and Vice President of Development at North American Properties, John leads the mixed-use development platform for the company’s Atlanta office. Over the past five years, he has been responsible for the development of Avalon, a mixed-use community that is bringing the urban values of walkability, density and public spaces to suburban Alpharetta, Georgia. Avalon’s unique events and atmosphere have given the community a gathering place to connect and grow. The first phase of this $1 billion “urbanburb” opened in October 2014, and has won numerous awards from Urban Land Institute, Atlanta Business Chronicle, ICSC and more. The second phase, Boulevard East, opened in April of 2017 and brought eight new restaurants, 12 retailers, 276 apartments and an office building anchored by Microsoft. John is also involved with the reimagining of Midtown’s original mixed-use development, Colony Square, and dedicated to reinventing this icon while creating a community gathering place in the heart of Midtown.
Throughout his career, John has completed 5.3 million square feet of large-scale commercial projects across the country, valued at over $2 billion. During six years as Vice President of Development with Cousins Properties, his most significant projects included The Avenue Forsyth and The Avenue Webb Gin, both award-winning lifestyle centers. Prior to that, John spent 7 years with AIG Baker developing retail power centers. John loves working in real estate because he enjoys a challenge and knows that the work he does will leave a lasting impact on the community.
John graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree, and earned an MBA in Real Estate from the University of Georgia.
